Hi people! I'm a college student in the university of Málaga. I'm actually studying the 3º year of the degree to be a teacher of elementary school. I have created this blog to share with you differents tips and everything in relation with geometry. I hope this space will be usefull for you, enjoy it!

We do crafts

Another way to teach geometry can be as a transversal form in the sessions of art and plastic education. For this we will not need more than folios of colors, folios normal or recycled. The activity will consist of creating 3D figures such as cubes and pyramids as these children have achieved:

Photografy your life!

Hi people! This time, I have proposed to think of a totally original activity for children, where they can associate geometric figures with real life. The task is to ask our students to explore their surroundings and photograph everything they find with geometric form. This activity can be applied with all ages, while the older ones can do it for themselves, the younger ones should ask their parents for help. Subsequently all the photographs will be showen in class, and the 2 most original would win a prize.

GeoGebra

GeoGebra is a dynamic math software for all levels of education that combines geometry, algebra, spreadsheet, graphs, statistics and calculus in one easy-to-use program. GeoGebra has become the leading provider of dynamic math software, supporting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and innovation in teaching and learning around the world. We can work with this program with the 3º cicle of elementary education (5º-6º). We can ask our students to create differents geometric forms using computers. This an example of a trapeze that I have created:  Here you can download the program: https://www.geogebra.org/download?lang=es

Who likes bingo?

Hi people! Today we are going to learn how to teach geometric figures with a funny bingo. First, you have to create the bingo card for everybody or even ask to your students to create it by themselves with your help. Then, the rules of the game are very easy: you have to show the figures one by one to your students, and the person who have this figure have to screem it. The person that complete the game card first, wins. Here you have a tutorial where you can check how to do it. Good luck!

Piktochart

Piktochart is an online application that facilitates the creation of infographics for those who have no knowledge of design or programming. For this it facilitates predesigned templates, graphics, icons, fonts ... that the user is choosing according to his needs to complete his graphic. I discoverd this fantastic tool recently, and I have created an infographic where children can learn the basic knowledge about polygons. I really like the final result! https://magic.piktochart.com/infographic/saved/22957165#_=_

Learning geometry with Minecraft

Another idea to get closer to our students and to take them into account in the learning process, is to start from what is close to them, to take advantage of their motivations. Today it is rare to find a child who doesn't know minecraft. Minecraft is a video game of construction that causes much success among the youngest and in which everything has a geometric shape, because everything is cube-shaped. Therefore, it is a tool that we could use with our students to learn while they play. In this video we can see how to teach our students to learn to calculate the area of the geometric figures using this resource:

Videogames = Learning

As a future teacher, I think is very important that the teacher need to create a balance between tradional didactics materials and innovators ones.  This website for example, is a perfect way for the little ones to learn geometry through differents online games.  Children will always enjoy more putting in practice their knowledge using the ICT. Here you can go to the website!:  http://www.mundoprimaria.com/juegos-matematicas/juegos-actividades-figuras-geometricas-primaria/ (This is an example of one of the games that you can find there)
